The Sunday Times "Sunset Strip" Review - 2 December 2001

Sunset Strip (Video)

A tale of young and youngish rock things trying to get a life in 1972 Los Angeles. The rabble includes a photographer, Anna Friel's fashion artist, Nick Stahl's struggling guitarist, an Afro-headed manager already hooked on cocaine, and Rory Cochrane's excellent Harry Nilsson-style songwriter. Not in the same league as Almost Famous, but certainly with a lot more edge and cruelty to it, and a better sense of music and fashion. The best scene is when Stahl's band, with fat kid on bass, are rutually destroyed by the arrogant clubbers of the Whisky A-Go-Go. The soundtrack is well put together by no less than Stewart Copeland and Robbie Robertson.
