"Me Without You" Review

What a remarkably versatile place the Isle of Man is. Here it doubles for Blighty's south coast as we follow a couple of friends from childhood to maturity.

Marina (Anna Friel) is the wild half of the partnership, while Holly (Dawson's Creek's Michelle Williams) is a staid Jewish girl. They try to do everything together, experimenting with drugs and discovering booze and sex, even though it becomes obvious very early on that Marina is always going to cause heartache for Holly, and the relationship might suffocate them both. First Holly has the hots for Marina's brother (Oliver Milburn - a face for the future). Then the girls discover that they have shared a fling with their self-absorbed college professor (Kyle MacLachlan).

Maybe the story will have more impact for female viewers? By the end I was wondering what point Me Without You was attempting to make. But I forgave the film for all of its weaknesses because of the ace acting from Friel and Williams. The young American was particularly effective.
