Story

A remake of the 1970's film - "Me Without You" is a bittersweet comic look at how your best friend can ruin your life! An amusing and poignant tale of best friends Marina and Holly, written and directed by Sandra Goldbacher, who also wrote and directed "The Governess" with Minnie Driver.

"Me Without You" stars Anna Friel ("Land Girls", "Closer") as the precarious Marina and Michelle Williams ("Prozac Nation", "Dawson's Creek"), as the earnest albeit dreamy Holly. Anna's role of Marina is " a feisty adolescent racing toward womanhood with reckless haste" (who thinks these tag-lines up ??!!)

Spanning their young lives across two radically different decades, 1974-1989, "Me Without You" roller coasters from suburban childhoods and adolescence in North London, to heady student days in Brighton. Finally reaching a resolve when Marina and Holly's attempts at adulthoods, force them to realise that childhood promises aren't as easy to keep in the real world.

Synopsis

"Holly and Marina = Harina. Now we two are one...." (Reads the inscription, written on Biba paper, buried in a Charlie bottle in a suburban garden...)

One long, hot summer in seventies London, Holly and Marina make a childhood pact to be friends forever. For the troubled, unpredictable Marina, with her seemingly glamorous father and her valium-addicted mother, Holly stays the only constant in a life of divorcing parents, experimental drugs and fashionable self-destruction. Meanwhile, Holly buries herself in books out of feelings of frustration with her over-protective mother and a nagging insecurity around her beautiful and possessive best friend. She holds just one secret from Marina, her increasing passion for Marina's brother Nat.

As the years roll by, the girls experience everything life has to offer - se, love, loss and rock n roll. Nut eventually for Holly, a friendship which has never been equal, gradually begins to feel like a trap.

Poignant, funny and a perfect evocation pf the 80s, decade f post-punk and protests, ME WITHOUT YOU is a coming of age story told over two decades, that will strike a chord with everyone who has ever lived through friendship and survived to tell the tale.
